AMC Theaters, the largest theater chain in the United States, will pause its $5 Ticket Tuesday promotion from December 25th to January 7th. The hold will impact two Tuesdays – December 25th and January 1st. The promotion will be available again starting Tuesday, January 8th.
The promotion, exclusive to all AMC Stubs members (paid and non-paid), reduces the price of every Standard 2D ticket for Tuesday showtimes at participating locations to five dollars and also discounts premium shows.
If one, signed into a Stubs account, attempts to order a show on AMC’s website dated for December 25 or January 1, a message will appear saying “$5 Ticket Tuesdays are excluded December 25th and January 1st. The savings will return January 8th, 2019!”
A representative from AMC told us that “to ensure the program remains sustainable, we are unable to offer [$5 Ticket Tuesdays] for a short time during the holiday season, which this year is Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.”
Late December is also a crowded month for blockbusters at the domestic box office. Films such as Mortal Engines, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Aquaman, Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns all open between December 14th and 21st. Given the many titles and the increased attendance due to the two holidays, it can make sense to put the discount Tuesdays on hold.
